State of Black Dena

Project Overview
The State of Black Dena is a community movement born in the aftermath of the Eaton Fire, giving Black Altadena and Pasadena a visible, unified voice. The brand had to balance grief with hope and protest with warmth—and work across signage, social feeds, flyers, and merch.
The identity is built around the speech bubble, a symbol of visibility, voice, and power. Typography acts as the visual language: Aileron for clarity, Boldonse for loud, high-impact moments—with words like RESILIENCE and ACTION set large, sometimes filled with community photography. A grounded off-white and black palette is cut through by neon Kindflare green, with warm secondary accents. Imagery stays candid and documentary: real people, real moments, imperfection welcomed.
The result is a flexible system that keeps the movement recognizable at a glance while leaving room for many voices—rooted, unapologetic, and impossible to erase.
